Ambassadors of the Franco-Ontarian Flag

The Franco-Ontarian flag was created on 25 September 1975 at the University of Sudbury. In 1999, the ACFO d’Ottawa, under president Alain Vachon, started promoting the Franco-Ontarian flag in Ottawa schools by launching, in 2001, the Ambassadors of the Franco-Ontarian Flag project, including “La francophonie en couleur,” which proposed raising the Franco-Ontarian flag each year on 25 September with the mayor of Ottawa in attendance. Since September 2005, the Ambassadors of the Franco-Ontarian Flag project has been introduced to students in Ontario’s Francophone schools. The aim of the project is to stem the increasing assimilation of Franco-Ontarians by instilling pride in their Franco-Ontarian heritage in elementary school students through various school activities.
